The Scottish EBA'S Bi-Annual visit to London was described by SEBA'S Chairman Phil McIntyre as "A Good Three Rounder".
The delegation led by Phil included Davie Burns Scottish Champion and Scottish International,Bob Corbett Scottish Internationlist,Johnny Mallon Scottish/English Internationalist,John Mallon Jnr.Scottish Internationalist,John McClelland Scottish Amateur boxer,SEBA President the former British Coomonwealth & European Champion John McClusky and the "Legendary" Dick Mc Taggart MBE.Both John and Dick were accompanied by their wives Evelyn and Doreen.
Friday "Round 1" -Arriving on London.
Travel on train to London to be met by committee member John Powell who escorted the delegation to their hotel.
Fellow Scots Ray Caulfield and Robbie Wilson hosted the evening meal at Chou-Bella where everyone enjoyed a good meal,some great banter and a few "Wee Drams".
Saturday - "Round 2" - Tour of London.
Site seeing Tours of London on Tour Buses -boat trips on the Thames with Dick and Doreen opting for a West End Show "Jersey Boys" and we are told that Dick was dancing in the aisle to the sixties hits !!!
All met up in the evening for a meal with Ray Caulfield before going off to The Globe in Morning Lane where mine hosts Stephen and Gill Powell had arranged an East End sing-along which was enjoyed by everyone.
Sunday "Round 3"-LEBA meeting.
Where the delegation met up with the 200 + LEBA members in attendance.
Assistant Secretary Barbara O'Sullivan had arranged a display of Scottish flags to welcome the visitors.
Both Dick and JohnMcClusky were very much in demand especially Johnas it has been 10 years since his last visit to LEBA.
Phil McIntyre introduced his members who were joined by Jan Mack who had just flown in from Barbados.
Phil presented LEBA with a Silver Cup to be used for the "Best Boxers Score" at the annual Sir Henry Coope Golf Classic and invited LEBA members to the "Scootish Hall of Fame" weekend in October this year.
After the "offical meeting" the "unoffical meeting" went on to 5 pm.Then after a quick meal it was off to join LEBA member Nobby Clarke and others at a famous East End pub - The Duchess - for yet another sing-along which went well into the evenong.[Afew sore heads the next morning for the journey back home !!! ]
Phil said the next day that the result of the "Good Three Rounder" was a "unanimous points victory " for the Ex-Boxers Associations - and he thanked LEBA on behalf of his members for their great hospitality.
