JOEY KHAN

Joe Khan RIP

Dear members,

Sorry to hear from Joe Looker, that sadly, our dear friend and LEBA member Joe Khan had passed away on Monday 23rd September after a long illness.
.
Joe was a popular member of LEBA, as was his late brother Charlie and his surviving brother Bernie. He was a long term member, whose support for LEBA was immeasurable; he never gave up trying and looking out for LEBA's interests.

He worked very hard behind the scenes to obtain for a ‘homeless’ LEBA, part of the Arbour Youth Club building, a disused synagogue in Stepney Green. It had been purchased and given to the youth of the area by Joe’s great friend, the late Phil Green. Unfortunately Joe was left deeply disappointed when the Arbour Youth Club committee rejected his proposal. However, through this endeavour Joe introduced his friend the late Cyril Paskin to LEBA and a great benevolent and fruitful friendship for LEBA ensued thereafter.

Joe loved boxing and indulged in the sport at a very early age under the auspices of the old ‘Stepney Institute’ in London’s East End. Joe never forgot his roots, regularly attending LEBA meetings to keep in touch with his brother Bernie and his many friends from boxing, and East London.

In healthier times Joe would offer a lift home to various members in his beloved ‘Classic’ red Jaguar car, never travelling at more than 20 mph, probably the slowest lift home any of us ever received!

He was a thorough 'GENTLE-MAN', easy going and easy to love, personally I will miss him very much, and I'm sure that goes for a great many other members too.

My deepest sympathy and LEBA’s condolences go to his family, may God bless and comfort them, theirs is such a sad loss, and they must miss him so much.

Everybody should have a friend like ‘Joey’ Khan, may he now Rest In Peace forever.

Stephen Powell
President
